The SBC counter (around 300,000 brake actuations) exists because the unit wears. A reset switches the warning off and leaves every worn part exactly as it was. That's why we only do a reset after inspecting the unit, and only when you ask for it.

What happens to your pump

1Book. Pay online or call/WhatsApp. Send us your fault codes and the part number from the unit's label so we can check the job before you post anything.
2Post it safely. Cap the hydraulic ports, wrap the unit, use a rigid box with foam on all sides, include your name, phone and reg, and send it tracked. UK postage both ways is included.
3Check-in. We match the unit and its label to your booking.
4Strip-down and rebuild. Motor and brushes, seals, valves, O-rings, and the accumulator where required. Passages cleaned.
5Bench test. Pressure output (pass mark at least 160 bar peak) and CAN communication are checked on our test rig.
6Counter reset. Only after the hardware has passed.
7Serial and warranty. The unit is laser-engraved with a unique serial and registered for warranty.
8Tracked return. Back to you by tracked courier within 24โ€“48 hours of arrival, with warranty documents. Refit it and do a diagnostic brake bleed; see our bleeding procedure. No recoding needed, because it's your own unit.

What we won't do

โœ˜Sell a counter reset as a "repair".
โœ˜Reset a unit we haven't inspected.
โœ˜Ship an exchange unit without matching it to the part number on your existing unit's label. There's no such thing as an SBC pump that "fits all W211s".
โœ˜Tell you to keep driving on a red brake warning.
๐Ÿ”ด Red brake warning? Stop. Pull over safely, don't drive the car, and arrange recovery. A red warning means braking can't be guaranteed. The grey "Service Brake! Visit Workshop!" message is backup mode: drive short distances with care and book the repair. Call 07404 487674 for advice.

Check with Mercedes first

In the USA, Mercedes-Benz extended the SBC hydraulic unit warranty to 25 years with no mileage limit for 2003โ€“2006 E-Class, 2006 CLS and 2003โ€“2012 SL models, plus SLR and Maybach (Mercedes-Benz USA, 14 Sept 2018). We know of no equivalent published scheme in the UK, but it costs nothing to ask a dealer to check your VIN and put the answer in writing.

Questions about our process

Do you just reset the SBC counter and call it a repair?

No. A rebuild is a full strip-down: worn motor brushes, seals, valves and O-rings are replaced, the accumulator where required, passages are cleaned, and the unit is pressure- and CAN-tested on our bench. The counter is reset only after the hardware has passed. A reset on its own is a separate ยฃ120 service, done only after inspection and on request, with no warranty.

How do I know my SBC pump was really rebuilt?

Every rebuild is laser-engraved with a unique serial number and registered for warranty, so the unit you get back can be traced to our bench and our warranty. Ask us any time what was replaced on your unit.

What pressure does a rebuilt SBC unit have to reach?

Our pass mark on the bench is at least 160 bar peak pressure, alongside a CAN communication test. The system runs at around 140 bar on the car.

How long does a postal rebuild take?

24โ€“48 hours from when your unit arrives, then it goes back by tracked courier. UK postage both ways is included in the ยฃ430 price.

Will Mercedes-Benz replace my SBC unit for free?

Possibly, depending on where the car was sold. In the USA, Mercedes-Benz extended the warranty on the SBC hydraulic unit of 2003โ€“2006 E-Class (W211), 2006 CLS (C219) and 2003โ€“2012 SL (R230) models, plus SLR and Maybach, to 25 years with no mileage limit (Mercedes-Benz USA parts update, 14 September 2018). We know of no equivalent published scheme in the UK. Before paying anyone, including us, ask a Mercedes-Benz dealer to check your VIN and tell you in writing whether any warranty, campaign or goodwill applies to the SBC unit.
